Creating Cultures of Commitment and Quality

Who Designs and Implements the Future Organization

The work of many consultants is binary: “Tell us what you want to change, we go design it, you accept or reject it.” While there is something attractive about the simplicity of this approach, it fails to involve the members of the organization in a way that gains their commitment and their best contribution to the process.

Ninety percent of the results of any change process come because those who will ultimately implement the change feel that it belongs to them, and they fully understand it. To achieve this commitment requires an inter-active and high involvement design process. The exact steps in the process will vary for every organization. However, this illustration provides a general guide as to who is involved in the process.

There is a Steering Team comprised of senior managers who have the authority to make decisions and empower others. They will appoint a Design Team who will seek input from customers, suppliers and other members of the organization. They will also seek input from benchmarking.
