Speaking topics of Lawrence M. Miller
Larry Miller has been a popular speaker at corporate and association gatherings for many years. He has spoken before hundreds of organizations and conducted hundreds of workshops on the subject of leadership, teamwork and creating high performing corporate cultures. Currently there are three major themes to his presentations, although these are always customized for the needs of the audience and time available.
Competing in the New Capitalism:
Business competition is no longer based on financial capital and does not result in financial outcomes alone. The key to competition today is excellence in all five forms of capital: social, spiritual, human, and process or technology capital, in addition to financial capital. This new capital resides at three levels: the organization, team, and individual.
In this presentation Mr. Miller provides the essential understanding and tools for competition in this new world. He defines the most important disciplines that unify energy and effort toward common business strategy. These are the currencies, which build the bank account of each of the five forms of capital. The pursuit of all five forms of capital will define not only your organization’s success, but also that of your team, and your personal net worth.
Mr. Miller has brought unity to the concept of wealth. He has provided a roadmap for creating both personal wealth, effective teams, and an organization that creates not only economic value, but ennobles the human spirit.
From Barbarians to Bureaucrats: Leadership through the Corporate Life Cycle:
Based on his book, this entertaining presentation compares the rise and fall of civilizations to the emergence and decline of companies and plots the role of the Prophet, Barbarian, Builder and Explorer, Administrator, Bureaucrat, and finally the Aristocrat. The audience can compare their organizations stage of life and recognize the leadership needs, the need for creative challenge and response, at their state of evolution.
Managing Change: The Whole-System Approach:
Chaos or complexity theories are popular topics of discussion but, they are not often translated into an actionable method for designing processes and organization to achieve business goals. Larry Miller has implemented “whole-system architecture” in more than one hundred organizations, including Corning, Shell Oil, and Coca-Cola and achieved dramatic improvements in cycle-times, costs and customer service. Again, this presentation can be either an introductory talk or a workshop to initiate a plan for improvement in one organization.
